Yale Mural

Responsibilities:I thought about this and discussed it with the college administrators almost four years before it's completion. I made all the charcoal sketches seen below as part of the ideation process. Since my medium was drawing and Autumn was much more experienced in painting, she took the lead on getting the painting materials and scaffolding. Autumn is highly skilled in detailed nature art, so she took the lead on Leo and Pisces while I focused more on the other constellations, Teapot and Argo.
Fall 2008: As an incoming freshman, I asked Dean Loge about painting a mural in the residential college. Having an avid interest in astronomy and art, I saw a lot of potential in the blank space. Dean Loge said the mural is definitely a possibility and to give him a draft when I fully flushed out my idea. I started on a few drafts and settled on a few features, such as constellations, nebulae and gingko leaves, but eventually put the project in the back of my mind for close to three years because nothing was good enough.
Spring 2012: I had more time since my main projects were winding down. I met Autumn while we were building the set for a musical. I proposed my project and got her on board. We produced a rough draft and got Dean Loge and Master Brenzel's approval.
Fall 2012: We applied for Yale CPA funding and got it. With the funds, we bought all the painting materials and rented the scaffolding. By Novemember, the mural was finished.
